I am still halfway through this book. Martin Jacques present a groundbreaking look at how China's economic ascendancy will alter the balance of global power. Drawing extensively on Chinese history, he reveals how an increasingly powerful China will resurface in modern form.
Interestingly, this book was first published in 2009 and today just look at our own backyard. South China Sea. Rival countries have wrangled over territory in the South China Sea for centuries, but tension has steadily increased in recent years.
China has backed its expansive claims with island-building and naval patrols, while the US says it opposes restrictions on freedom of navigation and unlawful sovereignty claims.
This is not simply a book about China, but about the many implication of China's rise for the emerging world order. Should I say, macam it gives us an important glimpse of the future.
Oh, and yes whilst reading this, I keep saying to myself. I wish our country will have a leader which is bright about geopolitics. See beyond the chessboard. Stop being the pawn.
